Still shuttering & disrupting an existing school; DEIR released

The Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on the San Diego Unified School District (the District) Scripps Mesa Joint Occupancy Project was released on January 19, 2018 and can be reviewed at the SR Library, the District Physical Plant Operations Center Annex or online at: www.sandiegounified.org/environmental-reviews.

A majority of the school board members continue to support this project despite the fact that (1) the project interferes with the educational activities of the Innovations Academy Charter School that still has not found a new school site; (2) it unduly disrupts the residents in the surrounding neighborhood; (3) and the project will jeopardize the safety of children, putting them in close proximity to guns, alcohol, weapons, photography, from apartment units, 150 feet away.

The CEQA Notice of Availability states that written comments should be sent to:  Paul Garcia, CEQA Environmental Coordinator, 4860 Ruffner Street, Annex Room 5, San Diego, CA 92111 and must be received no later than 5:00pm on March 6, 2018.

The community and the public are encouraged to review and submit comments on the Draft EIR.  Comments should focus only on the accuracy and sufficiency of the DEIR – that is, does it accurately and completely inform decision makers and the public of possible environmental effects of the project and of the required alternatives.

To assist with public review of the DEIR, the Miramar Ranch North Planning Committee has scheduled a DIER review subcommittee meeting at the SRCA Community Center on Wednesday, February 28th at 6:30pm for public discussion and comments.

Voice of Scripps Ranch (VOSR) is a coalition of San Diego area residents for the reasonable use of the San Diego Unified School District property at the Innovations Academy site (a.k.a. Scripps Mesa Conference Center) located at the corner of Scripps Poway Parkway and Spring Canyon Road.   The District proposed use of the property is a joint-occupancy redevelopment project with the Monarch Development Group that includes a 300,000 SF, 264-apartment complex; a 4,000 SF STEAM facility; 2,000 SF of commercial use; and a 1,500 SF community garden.
